UberEATS to expand rapidly; starts operations in Gurugram
UberEATS, the food delivery service of Uber, has started its services in Gurugram, besides Mumbai, in a bid to achieve its target of expanding in 6 India cities in 2017. Around 300 restaurants in the city have already signed up with the company giving it a significant boost. Faiz Abdulla, General Manager of UberEATS for NCR region hired from Housing.com, said that “We are excited about going live in Gurugram today and aim to expand the service area to New Delhi and other parts of the National Capital Region soon. The service has received a great response from users in Mumbai. We initially launched in four areas, Bandra, Parel, Powal and Andheri West, and in about eight weeks, have expanded to cover all of Mumbai”.
The startup’s working model is similar to the other competitors such as Zomato, Foodpanda and Swiggy wherein it will hire its own delivery agents who have their own two-wheelers. The app will have a separate user interface for customers, delivery agents and restaurants. Uber started its online food delivery vertical in 2014, and launched as a separate app in 2015. As of today, it covers cover 97 cities across 29 countries.
