Tesla alters strategy; roll outs Supercharger installation plans for numerous cities in the US

Tesla, the electric mobility startup, has changed its strategy of installing supercharges only on highways for improving range of its electric cars. The company is now installing several urban supercharges for its customers in numerous cities including Boston, Chicago, LA and Beantown. The number may increase substantially in future as the company recognizes that not everyone has a garage where a slower charger intended for overnight rejuicing can be installed. The company’s spokesperson said that “As part of our commitment to make Tesla ownership easy for everyone, including those without immediate access to home or workplace charging, we are expanding our Supercharger network into city centers”.

On an average, the supercharges take around 40-45 minutes to complete the process. The new supercharges are technologically advanced, compared to old ones, leading to consistent charging experience even if other cars are getting charged in parallel. The company further added that “Supercharger stations in urban areas will be installed in convenient locations, including supermarkets, shopping centers and downtown districts, so it’s easy for customers to charge their car in the time it takes to grocery shop or run errands”.
