Talkshow decides to shut shop; couldn’t attain the desired scale

Talkshow, the social network for public texting, is planning to shut down by 1st December’16. The application, created by former Twitter executive Michael Sippey, allows users to group text in public, making the conversation open to everyone.

Michael Sippey wrote the following farewell post “While we have enjoyed the conversations that have happened on Talkshow, and are grateful for the community that has formed around the product, we don’t see it getting big enough to have the impact we had hoped for. We’re sorry, and we’re going to try to handle this transition in the right way.” The application will cease all active conversations by next week, and will release an export tool to save those chats. On 1st December’16, the application will shut down.

Although a major factor behind Talkshow’ closure is trying something that wasn’t especially unique or vital, it is wildly perceived that the domination of two firms i.e. Facebook and Snapchat have led to an oligopoly structure with very high entry barrier for new players.
