Mozilla Acquires AI Startup Fakespot for Fake Review Detection

The creator of the Firefox web browser, Mozilla acquires AI Startup Fakespot that provides customers with a website and a browser extension to help them spot fraudulent or dubious ratings.

Fakespot, according to the startup, would give Firefox users access to a reliable shopping tool that will enhance their online buying experience.

Additionally, Mozilla stated that it would gradually add Fakespot functionality to Firefox.

Future Fakespot integrations that are specific to Firefox will also be available. The addition of Fakespot’s capabilities will give Firefox users the best tools possible to weed out false online reviews and shop with the assurance that what they’re buying is legitimate and of good quality, it was stated.

Fakespot, an American company formed in 2016, uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to identify patterns and resemblances in reviews and flag them as fake.

To assist customers in making wiser purchasing selections, Fakespot rates or grades product reviews.

The business’s website and browser extension are made to make it easy for customers to see instances when false reviews can be inflating a product’s rating in search engines.

Mozilla unveiled Mozilla.ai, a brand-new firm in March that it expects “will build a trustworthy and independent open-source AI ecosystem”. According to the business, it will initially invest $30 million in this firm.
