Indonesian Startup Acquires Bangalore-based Pianta
Indonesian ride-hailing startup Go-Jek has acquired Bangalore-based online marketplace for home healthcare services Pianta for an undisclosed amount. GO-JEK is backed by Sequoia Capital and Yuri Milner-backed DST Global and deals in hyperlocal transport, logistics and payments services in Indonesia. The acquisition brightens Go-Jek’s foray into the healthcare sector.
“At GO-JEK, we constantly seek to continue to push the boundaries of innovation. Pianta’s role will be very important to strengthen our technology excellence to bring the best services for customers. We believe this acquisition will advance our mission to become the largest on-demand application of choice for all Indonesians,” said Nadiem Makarim, Go-Jek Indonesia CEO and Founder, in a press statement.
Founded by former Ola and Flipkart executives Swaminathan Seetharaman, Ganesh Subramanian and Nitin Agarwal in 2015, the acquisition happened within 4 months of funding that Pianta received from Freecharge Founders – Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon.
Go-Jek became the first unicorn in Indonesia after raising USD 550 million from KKR, Warburg Pincus, Farallon Capital, Capital Group Private Markets last month. Go-Jek was founded in 2010 by Harvard alumnus Nadiem Makarim and Michaelangelo Moran. It has partnerships with 200,000 motorcycle and car drivers and 5,000 truck drivers.
