Chip-design startup Invecas acquires HDMI Design and Simplay Labs
Invecas, the Hyderabad-based chip-design startup, has acquired Nasdaq-listed Lattice Semiconductor Corporation’s HDMI design team and its subsidiary Simplay Labs, which oversees standards compliance and interoperability testing services. The deal includes the transfer of ~150 research and development staff, labs and other assets from Lattice’s operations in the United States, India and China. Darin Billerbeck, president and chief executive of Lattice Semiconductor, said that “This strategic transaction does not only help us support our existing business, but also fosters a collaboration between the companies to speed the development and adoption of both existing and new HDMI standards. We are confident that Invecas will continue to pioneer HDMI by providing world class IP and services”.
The startup, founded in 2014 by serial entrepreneur and former managing director of global chip giant AMD India Dasaradha R Gude, has also acquired California-based Kool Chip and Bengaluru-based Krivi Semiconductor in the past. He elaborated that “This transaction will be a tremendous addition to our technical capabilities. It will enable us to broadly influence our customers’ standards connectivity roadmaps and will provide better insight into their product development”.
