Cabby Tabby Technologies to provide in-car entertainment services for Uber
Cabby Tabby Technologies, a Pune-based technology startup, is working on a pilot project for installing Android-based entertainment devices inside Uber cabs in the country. The pilot is currently being tested in Pune and Delhi with UberX service. Shripal Gandhi, co-founder of Cabby Tabby Technologies, said that “Already (in cab) experience of more than 10 lakh riders is being enhanced every month. Every day more cabs are getting installed with CabbyTabby platform. We have partnered with Hungama Music, Hungama Play, TVF, PrankMinister, Fast10, MallsnDeals, etc for content on the devices”.
The move is to counter Ola’s “Ola Play” service which is gaining prominence among the customers. The rival Ola Play has been around for more than a year now with the firm allowing the customers to use either in-car table or customer’s own mobile to control music in the car. The rider can play any video, music or movie available as part of the content under Ola Play service.
Uber is also in talks with SpotPlay, a Bangalore-based WiFi content provider. Sai Krishna, CTO of Spotplay, said that “In our pilot phase we’re planning to install Spotplay boxes in 200 cabs in Bangalore”. Reportedly, the ride sharing firm is offering the drivers INR1,000 per month for letting them install such entertainment systems in their car.
