Byju acquirs TutorVista and Edurite from UK’s Pearson

Byju, the domestic education technology startup, has formally acquired TutorVista and Edurite from the UK-based Pearson group. The partnership is helpful for Byju as it is focused on expanding international reach and creating a diverse product portfolio for the startup. Byju Raveendran, CEO of Byju, commented on the development and said that “This partnership will enhance our product offerings and give us access in some of the new markets when we launch our international products. We are excited to work with the talented and experienced team who will come on-board as a part of this acquisition. With a wider bandwidth, we have started creating similar products for the international markets that further boost our reach as well as product portfolio”.

While TutorVista had acquired Edurite in 2007, Pearson acquired TutorVista in pieces and had 100% ownership by 2013. Deepak Malhotra, MD of Pearson India, said that “Edurite and TutorVista are pioneer brands in their respective spaces and enjoy great customer goodwill. We are pleased that a leading online education company in India sees value in the Edurite and TutorVista businesses, brands and employees”.

Founded in 2011, Byju has raised $210 million capital till now, and counts big names as its investors such as Sofina, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Ventures, Verlinvest, Aarin Capital and Times Internet, part of the Times Group that publishes The Economic Times, and others.
