Amazon further pumps INR340 crore into Amazon Wholesale India

Amazon Wholesale India, the Indian subsidiary which focusses on retailing to business entities, has received INR340 crore of capital infusion from its US parent. The capital infusion leads to total investment of INR756 crore till now into the subsidiary. The subsidiary caters to kirana store owners and offices and supplies FMCG products, consumables and small appliances. Amazon Wholesale is also the retailer and distributor of smartphone brands like Coolpad, Honor, One Plus and others which do not have a distribution chain or physical presence in India.

An Amazon India spokesperson said that “We are relentlessly focused on expanding our selection and raising the standard for customer experience and online shopping in India. With Amazon Wholesale India, our vision is to build a place where businesses can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online”. The marketplace is expected to register a separate India entity to retail only food and groceries after it receives license for 100% FDI in these categories from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. Amazon intends to invest heavily in the India business and has infused $2.1 billion till now.
