Amazon interested in buying Slack

According to reports from Bloomberg, Amazon.com, the e-commerce giant is one of the many firms which are looking to acquire Slack, the popular enterprise chat app.

As reported by Bloomberg, “San Francisco-based Slack could be valued at least US$9 billion in a sale, the people said. An agreement isn’t assured and discussions may not go further, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.”

Slack’s business-oriented messaging service has been widely adopted by companies since it launched in 2013. It has got multiple rounds of funding till the current interest for potential acquisition. Through this acquisition, Amazon is targeting its fierce rivals Microsoft and Google. Among the top tech companies, Amazon is the only one which doesn’t own a chat service.

Microsoft’s Azure and Google Cloud are the major competitors of AWS, although the Amazon is by far the market leader. Microsoft has Teams and Office365, while Google has Google Apps, including Gmail, and Hangouts. Amazon is expanding its suite of products in order to maintain its competitive edge.
