Alibaba launches Global Ecommerce Talents program in India
Chinese B2B giants Alibaba has launched a Global Ecommerce Talents (“GET”) Programme in India focussed at students, small business professionals, and entrepreneurs, to provide them with skills and resources to prepare them for a global e-commerce industry.
Commenting on the development, Guru Gowrappan, Global Managing Director and Head of India for Alibaba Group said in a press note, “We are delighted to introduce this unique program in India. With a population of over 1.2 billion people, coupled with increasing internet and mobile penetration, the Indian e-commerce industry holds enormous potential for expansion. The government’s push for a Digital India also sets the right precedence for the growth of this industry. Through this program, we hope to enable professionals to become competitive on a global scale and help them build competencies to promote international trade.”
India is the fourth country to have the GET program after Thailand, South Korea, and Malaysia. More than 2,20,000 students are benefited from this program so far. In India, the first batch of partners for GET in India include the Centre of Ecommerce Excellence Pvt Ltd, Indian Institute of Ecommerce, First EduIndia Limited and Unified Growth Foundation. The program will be launched in select Indian colleges in the first phase, which will include Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) and Kalinga University.
