Flipkart’s Ekart to experiment with hyper-local deliveries

Earlier this year, the logistics arm of Flipkart Ekart announced its first-of-its-kind consumer courier services to ramp up the game of logistics industry through its well-established technological process. With this venture, Ekart enters into a direct consumer facing business with an objective of structuring the fragmented courier market in India.

In a recent interview to a leading English daily, Ekart head Saikiran Krishnamurthy has revealed that the firm will be experimenting with hyperlocal deliveries—typically done within an hour to expand its offerings to third-party users. “The company has partnered with about half a dozen companies to execute their hyper-local deliveries, including food deliveries. He did not divulge further details as the company is yet to scale up the programme,” the report quoted.

Ekart, which is currently the largest logistics company in India—an industry first, the service allows users to drop a pin for both the pick-up and delivery addresses on a map that is provided by the FLIP (Flipkart’s mapping platform) which will significantly solve the issues of pincode-address mismatches, reduce misrouting of couriers and improve reliability.
