Burrp, the food-technology startup, acquired by BookMyShow for INR6.7 lakh
BookMyShow, the online movie and event ticketing platform, has bought Burrp, a Mumbai-based local food and restaurant recommendation engine, from Network18 in a INR6.7 lakh deal. The deal materialized after Network18’s board decided to divest the startup owing to minimal revenues and no strategic play with the owner’s vision. The valuation is minimalistic compared to the INR4.3 crore paid by Infomedia18 (part of Network18 group) to buy Burrp in 2019.
Mansi Vora, head of mergers & acquisitions at BookMyShow, said that “Movie going in India is a social activity and food is an integral part of it. This is where Burrp fits in for us. We are excited to have Burrp on board and look forward to benefitting from their experience, technology and partnerships to offer a superior and comprehensive offering to our users”. BookMyShow currently offers users the option to pre-book their food and beverages at cinemas while booking their movie tickets on the platform. It has partnered with over 2,100 food retail brands including McDonald’s, Chaayos, Mainland China, Dunkin Donuts, Barbeque Nation and Subway among others to cover over 6,400 outlets around 1,100 cinemas across India. Thus, the acquisition will add significant value to the company’s allied offerings.
