Uber’s CEO quits Donald Trump’s Advisory Council after strong backlash

Travis Kalanick, Uber’s CEO, recently quit Donald Trump’s newly created Advisory Council after strong criticism from both customers and drivers. #deleteuber was one of the most trending hashtags on twitter during the last week, and such strong negative reaction from its customers led to the decision to step down from the council. The immediate backlash from the customers was prompted by Donald Trump’s controversial executive order to ban the entry of immigrants from 7 Muslim dominated countries, and refugees for indefinite time.

He wrote that “Immigration and openness to refugees is an important part of our country’s success and quite honestly to Uber’s. There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that. The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America.”

Other members of the Strategic and Policy Forum incorporated by Donald Trump includes the CEOs of BlackRock Inc., Blackstone Group LP, General Motors Co., IBM, Tesla Inc. and Walt Disney Co. The council was created by the newly christened president with guidance from a variety of industries on business and economic issues. But after Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration and refugees, the companies have faced calls from customers and employees to disassociate from the administration.
