Tonbo Imaging Seals $100 Mn Deal with Peruvian Army

Bangalore-based imaging-design startup, Tonbo Imaging has reportedly sealed a $100 Mn deal with the Peruvian Army. The startup has agreed to manufacture and export ‘night-vision sights’ for US-imported guns to the Peruvian army. Tonbo will offer a similar deal to the Indian army too.

The Peruvian government signed a $1.5-billion deal with US manufacturer Unified Weapon Systems (UWS) to assemble and jointly manufacture 3,00,000 rifles as an initiative to improvise the weaponry of the armed forces and its national police.

“Close to 10,000 weapons will be equipped with Tonbo’s thermal imaging sight with a total order of over $100 million over the next 10 years,” Arvind Lakshmikumar, CEO of Tonbo Imaging, was quoted saying to ET.

Tonbo Imaging designs, builds and deploys advanced imaging and sensor systems to sense, understand and control complex environments. They offer a suite of solutions that address critical market needs in military reconnaissance, critical infrastructure security, and transportation safety. The company’s offerings consist of sophisticated imaging products, custom design applications and intellectual property cores that can be licensed by OEM’s and systems integrators.

Tonbo Imaging leverages innovative designs in micro-optics, lower power electronics, and real-time vision processing to design imaging systems for real world applications. Traditional systems across different imaging spectrums have relied on a single aperture principle with the burden of image formation placed excessively on the optics. Tonbo’s technology balances front end analog processing with sophisticated digital image processing to support the realization of light weight, low power imaging platforms across visible, mid-wave IR, and long wave IR spectrums.
