EA Founder Trip Hawkins Joins Web3 Gaming Startup
A former Apple executive Trip Hawkins who built the business that created the best-selling sports videogame series “FIFA”. Trip Hawkins joins Web3 firm that aims to compete with popular blockchain games like Axie Infinity.
According to Hawkins, the creator of Electronic Arts will join Games for a Living (GFAL) as a co-founder and serve as the organization’s chief strategy officer.
GFAL releases games that work with Web3, or blockchain, technology for consoles, desktop computers and mobile devices.
As Web3 gaming is expected to draw more bitcoin users, interest in it has increased over the past year. In these games, players can buy, sell and trade in-game products.
The popular NFT game Axie Infinity is supported by Hong Kong-based blockchain gaming firm Animoca Brands, which raised more than $500 million in 2022.
Hawkins stated on Thursday that Web3 serves as a gateway to the metaverse. And if we’re going to create a metaverse its economy ought to resemble that of the actual world more closely.
Although “cyberwallets” are more vulnerable to hacking, security issues still exist, and developers are attempting to diversify their platforms in response to slow growth and costly app-store fees.
Barcelona-based GFAL which was established in 2021 by a former King executive named Manel Sort, had a post-money valuation of 13.2 million euros ($13.96 million) following its most recent fundraising round the previous year.
